The sound of spring

Two notes

Long and sharp

Lower

And higher

Every year like clockwork

Two notes

Long and sharp

One lower

The next higher

Calling the dawn

Welcoming the year

Looking for love

Two notes

Long and sharp

One lower

One higher

A sound from memory

A sound from childhood

A reminder

Every year

A return of heat

Of green

Of long, long days

And humid nights

Of clear skies

And rumbling thunder

Two notes

One lower

One higher

They call the leaves to bud

They call the flowers to bloom

They call the rains to fall

Those two simple notes

One lower

One higher

Heralding the world's rebirth

I love this, like the little songbirds are singing the spring into being.
