The Cat Came Back

A barking dog did not deter this feline.

By Cheryl E PrestonPublished about 2 hours ago 1 min read

My morning walks

Bring different scenarios

From the animal world

A cat and a dog met

in the backyard and

A tale began to unfurl

He growled, she hissed

He barked, she ran

This scenario

Played out

Almost every morning

Again and again and again

The cat returned

Stood her ground

Then ran when

The dog made

a snarling sound

He would bark

And scratched the ground

Like a bull

Of himself

this tiny dog

was full

This morning, these two animals

Once again met

They stray feline

The pampered

Canine pet

Like the Gingham Dog

And the Calico cat

Side by side

These two

In the alley sat

On this day

Neither one

made a sound

They looked at each other

Up and down

No bark, no hiss

No growl

or running away

They sniffed

One another

As if they might kiss

The kitty looked uncertain

The pup seemed a bit shy

They each backed up

While keeping the other

in view

With suspicious eyes

Then the dog

Just walked away

I’m not impressed

Because they could fight

On another day

But I believe

This time

The cat's returned

Indicates she

Is back to stay

She will stand her ground

And no longer

Allow the dog

To ru her away
