I'm glad I waited until after high school to care.
I would never call myself a fashionista, although if you asked my mom and siblings, they would say otherwise. I'm the one who quote on quote 'overdresses' for casual events and wears popular fashion brands. If it's possible, considering all the women in the house are different styles with some overlap in sizes, my closet and jewelry stash are the first raided.

The Way I Wear My Hat
I sat with my hats today, trying to decide their homes. If you hang your hats on a wall, there’s joy in seeing their style & grace: the fabrics, feathers, buttons & bows! But also - some hats attract so much dust that when you take them off the hook to wear to the Easter Parade, they make you sneeze & cough.

Being a Mom and looking Amazing
Here is the thing: Because I am now a mom, the typical thing that is said in Hispanic families is that it is not appropriate to wear clothes that make you look slutty. Being a mom, it looks weird for me to be wearing matching outfits such as a crop top with shorts, or flare pants with a form-fitted shirt. My sister-in-law would say to me that if I was still single and not a mom, I could dress in outfits that one would normally wear at a club and honestly I didn't like that mindset. I didn’t like feeling like being a mom meant that I don’t deserve to glow.

Ladies Fashion in the Victorian Era
The one thing that always impresses me personally, when looking at a Victorian-styled dress, is the sheer “workmanship” that can be so clearly seen. Every dress was cut, put together and sewn — by hand! These dresses were “High-Fashion” and very similar to our Haute Couture today. The skill of the embroiderers who attached their piece of work to the dress is comparable to the dresses the rich women wore in the Tudor Era. It is no wonder that these dresses were so expensive, when we think about the time involved to ‘create’ them and the sheer skill — it is no wonder that only the very rich could actually afford these dresses.

How I Made the Midsommar Dress
For Halloween, I love to go ALL OUT. This costume was no exception. I wanted to make the Midsommar May Queen dress from the moment I saw Ari Aster's film in all of it's psychedelic, horrific glory. I'm no stranger to making costumes and playing dress-up, but I knew this would be a serious undertaking. Most of my costume skills involve hot glue, and seeing as I sewed through my finger in Home Ec class during high school, I had to call on my mom for help to get started.

The Dress She Wore Every Day for a Year
THE EXPERIMENT NOBODY UNDERSTOOD 👗 When thirty-four-year-old architect Emma Chen announced to her friends and colleagues that she would wear the same black dress every day for an entire year, the reactions ranged from concerned inquiry about whether she was experiencing a mental health crisis to fascinated support from the small community of minimalists and anti-consumption advocates who understood immediately what she was attempting, and the majority response which was confusion and mild alarm revealed something important about how deeply clothing choice is embedded in social identity and how threatening the refusal to participate in the daily performance of self-expression through fashion is to people who have never questioned the assumption that what you wear communicates who you are and that wearing the same thing every day communicates something negative about your mental state, your social awareness, or your respect for the people around you 🤔
